Acer’s first week I got Acer on Wed. September 7, 2005 at 11:05 am. My mom went with me because she knew that someone would have to drive Acer and me home from the airport. She ran in for me to see when my baby boy would be coming and the next thing I knew this guy was walking out with ma carrying a crate. Ma yelled "Your boy is here" and I jumped out of the Jimmy and went to the crate, opened it and called Acer boy, he came running into my open arms. The people standing around said it was great to see us “reunited,” at that moment I looked at them and said I have been waiting for this puppy for over 5 years and he is only 7 ½ weeks old and this is the first time we have ever seen each other. Well they were amazed. So after a lot of talking to all the people stopping to see the pretty puppy, ma and I were on our way with Acer in my lap! On the way home I called Laura and told her Acer was great. On Friday we were on our way to Ct. to do the LER on the Mo pups and Acer. For the trip I put Acer in his crate in the back of the Jimmy. Now his crate was very special, he had the whole back end with a rug, newspapers, and bed. He also had some toys, and his water dish. To make sure he didn’t get too hot back there I put four crate fans on the divider. He was a very happy puppy for the six hour car ride. We got to Laura’s and he got to play outside with her 3 dogs. Most of the time he stayed right by my side. |

On Saturday we
were off again to Rachael’s house to do the LER’s. She was about an hour
away. When we got there Katy was waiting and asked where my boy was I said
in his crate. Well when I opened the glass, she looked at me and said you’re
bad. We put Acer with Magoo to play a little while we got everything ready
for the LER. When it was time to start the LER, Katy wanted to do Acer
first. So Laura went to get him, since she already played with him she could
not do the testing. Katy took him and did a great job. While Acer was going
through each different station and I had to grade him I kept thinking you
are just like your grandsire. By the time he was done with his testing I was
ready to cry. I was always told that you can never clone a dog, but Acer was
as close to a clone as I could think of. His temperament was just like Ace.
Now you may be asking who Ace is so let me tell you a little about him. He
was a male that my mother brought home for me and talked me into keeping. I
kept him and trained him. He was my baby, he was friendly with other people
but wanted his mom. He was great with my kids and would never let anyone
around them that was not family. He was the one I would look to when people
came around, if he didn’t like you than I was not going to like you. He
saved my life and my son's life twice. He also saved Grizz one day in the
back yard. I owed that boy so much, but he was a house dog and hated the
kennel. Well in April of 1999 I was in a car accident and had to move back
home with ma. After moving everything around there was not enough room in the house for Ace so I did what was best for him and placed him into a new home. About 6 months after our house fire, we were getting ready to move to this house and I got a call from his new owners saying they could no longer keep Ace and wanted to send him to me. Even though he was in a foster home for a little while, I was thrilled to finally get him back here with me. He was so happy to see me again! He took over the house like he had never been gone. Well it was all short lived as only a few months after I got him back he passed away. Now his only son was living in Washington State, and I got a call saying if I could find the right bitch I could breed to him. So after almost 5 years from the time I lost my Ace, I found the right girl Saber2. So that is the short story of Ace, I could keep going but for now, back to the LER. |

We finished the rest of the Mo puppies and Katy brought Acer back out for us to play with. Katy took him back so we could finish the conformation part of the LER. Everyone said I was too tough on Acer, and yes I was but he is my boy no matter what he looks like. He did come out breed quality so I am very happy about that. After the LER he played again for a little while and got put in his “crate” for the ride back to Laura’s. On Sunday Laura, Chris, Julia and I took all the dogs to Fairfield Hills. This place is awesome, lots of room to run the dogs. Well Acer felt like a big man so I let him run with the big guys. He did great and had a ball. We walked for about an hour through the woods, roads, etc. After the walking was done we had a little training class. Acer was fine while mom sat next to him telling Laura and Chris what to do, but when I walked over to show them something, he went nuts. Well that was something we started working on right away. He also got his 10 min class in. He is so smart that he picked up a lot of stuff from just watching a few minutes of what the other dogs were doing. This could be trouble for me. After training we went back home and he went to sleep for a few hours while I left to get the Mo puppies. When I got back we went out and played again for a while and worked on his commands some more. Now in just these few days with me, he learned here, potty (and knew where to go), crate (and he hates this command but does it), easy (taking treats), and a ½ way leave it, sit, and down. Not bad for such a young puppy! |

| On Monday we got to play a little before an appt I had with Laura, than it was time to load up and come home. He loves to go for rides and slept most of the way. We got home and he ate, went potty, and got to play in the house for awhile. We have been going out to play and work (he thinks it all play) a few times every day. Tuesday and Wednesday we have been doing more with retrieve and bite work. He thinks this is the greatest. I have also had one time working him to “find it”. Matthew has been having fun playing with him and telling him no bite. So far he is just want I wanted and I thank Pam for letting me use her male for breeding and Laura for taking such good care of him his first 7 ½ weeks. I will try to give you all updates as often as possible, along with lots of new pictures. |
